How to get out of your Orange contract

I have just found out that Orange have just changed their terms and conditions on charges. What does this mean? This means they have broken the conditions on your contract.

You have the right to disagree with the new terms and conditions and cancel your Orange contract. It doesn’t matter how many months you have left on your contract. (source: a friend that works at orange)

My friend got a new orange contract 3 months ago and got a free blackbury. She rang Orange up yesterday and said she disagreed with the new terms and conditions and no longer wants to be with Orange and would like a PAC code to transfer her number.

They didn’t question it at all. They said they have canceled her contact and her phone will be cut off in 7 days. She then went into the Carphone Warehouse the same day and got a new contract for the same price with O2 and got a free iPhone! So now has had a free BlackBerry and free iPhone within the past few months!

So get ringing up now and get out of your contract. You can only terminate your account within a month of the new terms and conditions, so you have until the 14th August 2009 to cancel.

Here’s the parts of your contract that say you have the right to cancel.

From Orange terms and conditions effective 1 June 2007

“Terminating your Contract because Orange has changed its terms

4.3 You may also terminate your Contract if we vary its terms, resulting in an excessive increase in the Charges or changes that alter your rights under this Contract to your detriment. In such cases you would need to give us at least 14 days written notice prior to your Billing Date (and within one month of us telling you about the changes). However this option does not apply if:

4.3.1 we have increased the Charges by an amount equal to or less than the percentage increase in the All Items Index of Retail Prices published by the Central Statistical Office in the Monthly Digest of Statistics in any 12 month period;”
